Marianna Kneller and The Majical World of John Clare

Marianna Kneller passed the Southampton City Art Examination when she was 11 years old, and then attended the Portswood Preparatory Art School for four years. She returned as a mature student to the Southampton Art College for a two-year course on Illustration and Design.

From 1980 to 2005, Marianna was resident artist at Exbury Gardens, home of the celebrated Rothschild rhododendrons, and during this time the Royal Horticultural Society Waterlily illustration from The Majical World of John Clare by Marianna Knellerawarded her the complete range of Grenfell Medals and the Lindley Medal for her paintings of rhododendrons. In 1991 she received the prestigious RHS Gold Medal for her rhododendron species leaf studies, and she designed and painted the RHS Chelsea Flower Show Plate for 1994. In 1995, David & Peacock Butterfly, illustration from The Majical World of John Clare by Marianna KnellerCharles published her seminal Book of Rhododendrons.

  Today, Marianna is fully committed to painting the wild flowers so beloved by the English poet, John Clare, and to increasing the public's awareness of this remarkable man.  "The Majical World of John Clare" was privately published in 2014. The first edition has now sold out. Discussions are now being sought with a publisher/distributor regarding a second edition.
