Watercolour landscapes, seascapes, coasts, creeks, wildflowers, berries, fungi
Peter
Thwaites is a Land Agent /Chartered Surveyor
by profession. For most of his life he has lived and worked in Cornwall
painting and drawing the natural world around him from an early age. His watercolour paintings have been exhibited at the Royal Institution
in Cornwall, the Bankside Gallery in London and at the international ArtExpo in Atlanta, Georgia. For several years he was a regular exhibitor at the Five Arrows Gallery at Exbury Gardens in Hampshire with the 4 Seasons Art Group in the spring and with his own exhibitions of 'Wild Autumn Art' each October. Moving back to Cornwall in autumn 2014 has opened new opportunities.
His many watercolour sketchbooks of fungi and wild flowers have been built
up over the years. In 2005 he was commissioned by the British Mycological Society to illustrate their new leaflet on 'Common Fungi'. This then led to a second commission of a 'Poster of Common Fungi'. In 2014 The Institute of Medical Sciences at the University of Aberdeen asked Peter to produce three watercolour paintings of microfungi to publicise the new mycology centre sponsored by the Wellcome Trust Strategic Award for Medical Mycology and Fungal Immunology.
Teenage years spent sailing on the Carrick Roads in Cornwall have given
him an appreciation of the sea and tidal estuaries. In the mid-1990s
happy times were spent sailing his Drascombe on the Fowey River in Cornwall. His painting has taken him all over the British Isles, from Cornwall to Scotland and the Outer Isles.
Peter is a skilled and enthusiastic watercolour artist but also enjoys the freedom of acrylic and, occasionally, oils for larger canvasses.
The advances in digital printing technology have enabled the publication
of a range of prints from his many paintings. Prints and cards are always available to order from the website and by phone or email.
